Volunteering provides a meaningful, positive impact on the community. Our clients receive valuable assistance from volunteers who provide companionship to isolated elderly people or people with disabilities in their own homes.
Finnish language skills are beneficial but not mandatory.
Volunteers can also provide some assistance with transport and attendance at community activities, e.g. attending functions at the Finnish Hall or other cultural or social events, as well as transport to medical appointments, shopping, etc.
There is a wide range of volunteering options available, and as a FFVS volunteer, you can help in a manner that suits you best – as frequently as you like. Voluntary service is one of the key foundations of our operations, providing support for Finns in need. The FFVS continues to receive partial support from the Commonwealth and State governments, but relies heavily on support from fundraising and donations from the wider community to provide services such as volunteer visiting in nursing homes, telephone support, etc.
