Finnish Friendly Visiting Service (FFVS) Inc.

FFVS Inc. is a government funded support service for members of the Finnish community who are isolated, frail, elderly or younger people with disabilities and their carers.

Current services include:

Social Support Group (SSG)

(SSG) at the Finnish Hall. A social support service is held on Monday mornings* which aims to enhance health and wellbeing and promotes active ageing.

Activites include:
– Exercises for body and mind: chair based exercise, card games, puzzles, billiards, carpet bowls, etc.
– Finnish library, for Finnish magazines, videos, books, etc.
– Finnish Shop
– Computer access and tuition
– Good company and a light meal

On the first Monday of each month “Aivoriihi” or Brainstorming meets for a main meal, cheerful company, entertainment, information sessions on a variety of interesting topics and the occasional outing.

(* SSG operates from mid January to mid December, except on public holidays)

Friendly Visiting Program (Social Support – Individual)

Finnish-speaking volunteers are available to provide companionship to isolated elderly people or people with disabilities who are living in their own homes.

Volunteers can also provide some assistance with transport and attendance at community activities, e.g. attending functions at the Finnish Hall.

Information and Support to access community and government services e.g. Local Government and community care services, Community Aged Care Packages, allied health, equipment, respite and carer support services, etc.
